Situated at an elevation of 3998mt is Chelela Pass, the highest motor able mountain pass of the scenically blessed kingdom Bhutan. The quaint kingdom Bhutan is known for its surreal beauty and there are some viewpoints and site which lets the tourist enjoy the breathtaking scenarios of snow capped mountains and verdant land, Chelela Pass being of those sites. Located 35km from Paro valley the highest mountain pass Chelela divides the pictorial Haa valley from Paro. The panoramic view of snowcapped fortress Mt. Jomolhari, Jitchu Drake and adjoining peaks witnessed from Chelela Pass has ensnared the heart of many travelers making the mountain pass a favored vantage point of Paro.
The road leading towards Chelela Pass is considered as one of the most pictorial road of Bhutan which takes the travelers through the luxuriant valley dotted with the alpine forest of cypress, juniper and rhododendron. Along with the verdant valley, there are occasional sighting of waterfalls and rivers which glisten under the ray of sun like precious jewel during winter season when the once emerald green forest gets concealed under the think white blanket of snow. The 35km journey is full of mesmerizing sights of which showcases the rich flora and fauna of Bhutan creating a visual treat for the travelers. The view of Haa valley and Paro sprawled across the lush green meadow while being enclosed by lofty mountains and encircled by the meandering river stream can also be enjoyed alongside the verdant forest and snow clad Himalayan Mountain range from Chele Pass.

Each season has its own charm which can be relished while visiting Chelela Pass making the trip towards Chelela more wondrous but post monsoon season from October to December and late spring from March to May are considered the best time to visit Chelela Pass. During post monsoon season tourists can enjoy an unhindered view of snowcapped mountain along with adjacent valley and in late spring the vista of blooming rhododendron glazing the valley surrounding the mountainous pass.
